From his humble beginnings in Rave as Ultra-Sonic to global chart success with Public Domain, busting rhymes with Chuck D and Professor Griff from Public Enemy along the way, his collaborations with German producers The Warp Bros under the name Red Monkey and work with David Forbes as C-90. Its not only in Tech Trance and Hard dance Lee has applied his talents. In Nov 2005 he signed to the uber cool house label Subliminal Records as part of Scanners, the man of many guises Mallorca Lee shows no sign of slowing down and proves time and time again that music is not about what you should and shouldn't do, its just about doing it !

His indispensable Debunk Music imprint harbours some of the worlds best producers of House (Scanners, Steve Lawler, Mike Monday), Trance and Techno (David Forbes, Signal Runners and Mark Sherry) however its Mallorca's energetic mash ups and live performances around the world (his first ever DJ set was at The Ministry Of Sound!) that continually remind us how he won his way into our head and hearts, not to mention our record collection, in the first place.

In the beginning...........

Brought up on a tough housing estate on the West Coast of Scotland, Mallorca found music as way to escape the gangs and drugs culture that was claiming the streets and life's of many of his friends. In 1989 Mallorca started sampling all his old Hip-Hop / Electro records and writing house music as Acid House quickly became the new sound of the underground. "Acid House was MY Rock & Roll" he laughs. "If I didn't have such an interest and love for that music I really don't know where I would have ended up!" As the Rave scene quickly grew from the acid house scene Lee formed 'Ultra-Sonic' in 1990, signed a recording deal in 1991 and went on to release a 12" record called 'Obsession' touring the UK & Ireland.

Ultra-Sonic the band progressed from playing illegal raves to touring the world sharing the same bill at Raves, gigs and festivals as Moby, Carl Cox, Sven Vath and The Prodigy etc. Ultra-Sonic toured Australia and New Zealand and headlined almost all the main European dance events and festivals such as Mayday and Nature-One (Germany), Fantazia, Rezerection, Amnesia (UK), Soul Velvet (Japan), playing to crowds of up to 40,000 people. U-S also played the now infamous Limelight Club in New York which got very, very messy!

From 1991-1998 as Ultra-Sonic Mallorca released 14 singles, 4 studio albums, 1 live album and 2 full length tour videos With albums selling over 50,000 copies, in the U.K. This lead to record deals in - Europe (Edel Records), Japan (Avex Tracks) and Australasia (Central Station Records).

"What is techno? Electronic music created by technology!"

In between this chaotic schedule Lee found time in his growing studio to produce and release different music influenced by his time gigging in Germany listening to DJ's like Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath and live acts Hardfloor and the whole German Trance and Techno scene. His albums and 12"s on his own labels EF Music (House & Ambient) and Voodoo Vinyl (Industrial / Hardcore) were a way of escaping the toy town sound that Rave and Hardcore scene was starting to follow. Soundhouse, Brooklyn Boy, Lord Michael and G-Go were some of the many aliases Lee invented.

Always searching for new influences Lee was Inspired after a month travelling in Goa (1994) to release a Psy-trance EP under the name Experimental Fluxtuation as the first single on a new UK label "Telica".

In 1996 he formed 'Revolver' (which was to become the ill fated Bikini State). The music was a fusion of samples, guitars, bass and live drums mixed with loop beats, techno and rap vocals. After Ultra-Sonic's last album release "The Hour Of Chaos" on his own 'USR' label in 1998 Lee quit Ultra-Sonic to concentrated solely on Bikini State and secured a recording deal a year later with BMG/Deconstruction Records after being seen by MD Pete Hadfield at a gig at The Barfly in London. Sadly, Pete Hadfield resigned as MD of Deconstruction in January 2000, the 4 piece band "Bikini State" were dropped and split as a result.

"Back to the lab!"

After collecting his thoughts on the Island of Skye, Mallorca returned to Glasgow to work alone in his Snake Pit studio. Not really sure what direction he would take until his brother Darren suggested a holiday in Ibiza! It was 2000 - the golden year of Trance but more importantly the first time Lee heard a new breed of DJ that was breaking through the ranks - Steve Lawlers had just started his residency on the Space terrace !

Mallorca returned home to Glasgow with a new found enthusiasm for "dance music". His head was on fire fuelled by the uplifting, melodic energy of Trance and this new form of progressive house music which was deep, dark but still had funk. It wasn't long after Mallorca hooked up with David Forbes who also had the same love of Trance and Progressive house. The two producers locked themselves away in the Snake pit and wrote a few tracks they had spoke about wanting to do for years. Under the name Scanners they released their first single on Eve Records "Psychic Gymnasium" but it wasn't until Scanners second release "Super-Highway" on the infamous Glasgow label Limbo in 2001 that things begin to spin. Radio 1's plays from Pete Tong and remixes from Subterfuge aka Mike Monday & Gordon Kaye followed as the list of Dj support grew and grew. Scanners third single "Prayer" got the attention of Paul Oakenfold and American DJ D:Fuse who canned the track in Miami and there Perfecto tours across America. D:Fuse later asked to remix the track and turned in a monster work out that gained support from the legendary Carl Cox.

"Debunk Music"

Scanners set up a monthly club night in Glasgow city centre bringing guest who have worked with them on the music they produce and play. Their next release would be launched in Miami on the boys newly formed Debunk label. "GO OUT GET FUCKED UP" and "WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN YOU" were instant house wreckers. After several faxes from Steve Lawler giving praise to the tracks the boys new they were onto some good......

In between all the Debunk madness Mallorca and David also set up Red Monkey Records to release the Trance / Tech trance music that they were also making. Lee also reluctantly recorded some vocals to help a friend who had produced a hard dance track and needed some vocals. That friend was DJ Mark Sherry and the track would go on to become Operation Blade by Public Domain. As the single blew up in club land and stormed the UK charts at no.4 in December 2001 Lee was asked to join the three Producers Mark Sherry, James Allan and Alistair Macissac to form Public Domain. He finally agreed on one condition - the boys became a band and not just another commercial P.A. Lee immediately asked David Forbes if he would like to be involved in the project and they started to work on recording some tracks for the Public Domain album. Lee worked between the two studios recording vocals for Public Domain and writing new tracks for the album with David (Inside Out, Clear My Throat, Pump Up Nation & Two Many MC's) while the boys put there Debunk and Red Monkey labels on hold. Pulling in some old friends from Bikini State to play guitars and bass on the album and do some gigs with the band, Public Domain "live" rocked the Reading Festival, Homelands, Privelidge in Ibiza, the world over with their unique blend of Hard dance and Hip Hop.

"Public Enemy - Number One"

Performing live with Chuck D and Professor Griff from the legendary Public Enemy during the May day riots in London was one of Mallorca's best memories "I still keep in touch with Chuck and Griff via email and Mark and James stay just outside the city, were still friends just doing our own thing." adds Mallorca

In January 2003 Lee and Forbes, unhappy that their own labels and especially Scanners had suffered from the success of Public Domain decided to leave the band to concentrate on their own productions. It was full steam ahead with the second release on Red Monkey the massive ANSWERS by David Forbes (written and produced produced by the boys) which including a Scanners Remix and SHIVVER by Scanners which featured the vocal talents of Mark Kerr, the younger brother of Jim Kerr from 80's stadium rockers Simple Minds. Answers became Tiesto & PVD's tune of the moment while Shivver became the undisputed underground anthem of the Miami winter Music conference in 2003, Scanners were back and Scanners celebrated with a holiday in Ibiza which was topped off by Sasha playing Shivver as his closing track on the Space Terrace ! Steve Lawler would later ask to remix Shivver and give the boys what he calls "The best Remix I've ever done!" - Shivver (Steve Lawlers 4am in Harlem Remix - Debunk04)

The boys continued to build Debunk into Debunk Music which has now become the home of their labels and the music they write. Red Monkey signed and released Mark Sherry's first ever solo single "After Dark" which included a remix by a then unknown group called Signalrunners that Mallorca discovered and immediately signed to Red Monkey. Both labels are now into their 9th release with more tracks to follow......

"Inside Out"

Inside Out Recordings is the latest creation a label ran in collaboration with Simon Foy from the Scottish techno club Inside Out. The boys have released two tracks on IOR and a CD Mix album with bonus DVD which includes some of the best DJ's in hard dance and techno playing at the club night Mixmag has voted Scotland's best club night in 2003 and 2005.

The boys have showcased their music on four DJ Mix albums - Ultra Sonic Vs Public Domain / Internationals / Inside Out and their latest "RISE Verses RED MONKEY" being a two disc CD / DVD which features the boys filmed live on tour at club RISE in Perth, Australia during one of their sold out Australian tours.

"My crazy situations never change !"

To the present day Mallorca has continues to write and record dance music under many alias's in just about every genre of electronic music as a solo artist and with his long time friend David Forbes. There are plenty of tracks waiting to be released - Scanners just signed to Subliminal Records in November 2005 and their long awaited debut album - Welcome to Debunk along new David Forbes and Mallorca Lee singles have been licensed and due out on some of the worlds coolest record label. Mallorca continues to DJ around the globe with the same excitement and enthusiasm that captured his imagination almost 20 years ago....."Dance music is more than the sum of all its parts, more than the people who make it, or who play it, its a feeling, a way of life and its that way of life that I enjoy living!"
