TTF - The Time Frequency Profile/Interview1989 - The Time Frequency were Scotland's first techno band and quickly established a strong following amongst the countries club-going masses. TTF as they were also known played many sell out gigs at Scotland's top clubs like Barrowlands. Their hard work was reward with chart success with a number of hits amongst which were New Emotion & Real Love. By ?Autumn 1993 things started to go awry for TTF, when fans accused TTF founder Jon Campbell (the main creative force in the band) of selling out and becoming to commercial. by re-releasing tracks for financial gain. Arguments within the band lead the leader female vocalists to leave the group. She was replaced after interviewing over 100 vocalists with Debbie Millar, a beautiful 25 year old sessions singer from south coast Bournemouth. Interview with Jon CampbellThe following is an interview held with Jon Campbell in 1994: Many people in the dance scene have written TTF off. You only played a few gigs in the last year, why is this and what have you been doing? Jon: When we realised that the back lash was beginning to take effect, we deliberately stopped playing clubs and events. This cost us a fortune in lost fees but it had to be done. We kept our heads down. sorted out some internal problems with the band and channelled all of our energy into developing lost of new material and a great new stage show to go with it. How would you describe your latest sound? Jon: We have have an entirely new set which has a Euro-core derivative sound and we will be performing a couple of the old classics plus a few brilliant reworks of old eighties dance anthems. Debbie, you have only been part of the band for a few months, how are you enjoying it so far? It's going brilliantly. I have only played three proper concerts as part of the band, but I am already in love with the Scottish audience. They have an enthusiasm and energy which amazes me. You mentioned that you have a new stage show. Any clues as to what we can expect and when we can expect to see it? Jon: We have just finished auditions and we have found five new professional dancers to complement our existing and long standing duo - Gillian and Sam. We are still planning the stage show for our next convert with our promoters - Source Events - but one thing is for sure, it's going to be one of the best productions ever seen at a dance convert, with loads of special lighting and visual effects. The event takes place on Friday, December 30 at the Barrowlands, Glasgow, and we can't wait!! Why did you decide to work with Source Events rather than the likes of Regular Music? Jon: We discussed it and we agreed that we were impressed with the organisation that had gone into the Source September show, which we have the pleasure of playing. Paul: The Source team seem to have a good understanding of the ravers at ground level, and the fact that Steve and sol both enjoy producing the events comes across in the enthusiasm and energy which oozes out of them at all their events. Jon: Plus, both the guys have always believed in TTF. They like our music and they always try to give the best possible value for money at their events. You are obviously busy preparing for the Christmas Source, but what do you do to relax and forget about the pressure at work? Debbie: I love going out ta rally good club and I work out a lot to keep fit. Colin: Music and computer games. and I don't work out at all! Paul: I love clubbing out and about in Edinburgh. Jon: I relax! |
