Fantasylands 24/11/07 - Review by The Lone Ranger

I bought tickets for Fantasylands the day they were released; due to the fact that it was a big gig at Ingilston and due to the mess I got in at the Bangin’ Bunny Rez way back in 97 (can’t remember a thing) I wanted to (re) experience the atmosphere in the legendary Scottish Home of Hardcore.

The excitement boiled over the week before and I even had the old dear from upstairs, down to complain about the noise from the TV that had been playing rave DVD’s all week.

We got picked up in the Dundee/Fife bus (thanks Jamie) around 5pm and in hardly anytime we arrived right outside the main arena and went and joined the queue. I think we were around 50th in line and I was impressed by the vibe of the crowd. Spoke to a few folk including Scott Brown (not the famous DJ or footballer, lol) who said it was his first gig in 10 years! After around 30mins we were in, a quick pat down and through the doors that I’ve seen so many times on videos, and we were there.

Check out the stage! The sound system hadn’t been turned up yet so we headed to get drinks tokens then the bar for a few brewskis. A quick wander around the site and then into the Gatecrasher arena (which was stinking of cow p!ss). We stayed in Gatecrasher till around 9pm and caught Mallorca Lee, as ever the showman. I enjoyed his set loads, we were supposed to be pacing ourselves but ended up caning it till 9pm. Next off to the forum meet to see a few folks, say hello, avoid the cameras.

Most of the rest of the night was spent in the main arena; Highlights include Bassy G, Ultra-Sonic, MC Madman & Korrupt, Public Domain, A.O.F and the lazers!!!. But by 4.30 I was absolutely fooked and had to go for a wander to see what else was happening. By 5am we had to call it quits (last hour, didn’t have the power).

Scotland’s ravers have been demanding a 12 hour at RHC for years and there it was, delivered.

What a quality night out, only bother I saw was 2 guys squaring up outside (and that can happen anywhere. )
Enjoyed it to the max. The DJ’s, the PA’s, the lasers were great (better than COTT)

Respect to all the people I met (cannie mind you all) & the organisers.

Think I slept for 28 hours solid on the Sunday, old man legs can’t take the pounding they used to.

Only 2 grumbles.

1. No chill out area, a few mats in the corridor aint good enough, next time a tent with seats would be nice, I needed somewhere to rest my (old) bones that wasn’t outside and wasn’t Baltic cold.
2. The Gatecrasher arena stank, someone hose out the drains before the music starts.

All in all pretty damm good though.

for all the people who said they wouldn't go because "it won't be like old days" or "it wont be full", or it will be "full of neds", you were wrong. I hope you enjoy'd your night in Laughing
See you at the next one!!! bounce
