Club for Life - Dance Club, LondonClub for Life - the story of life. "The setting, a back-ally pub in deepest Soho [London, UK], summer 1992. Whilst discussing the current state of the club scene over lunch, Shelley Boswell and Jeremy Healy both agreed that something was missing, and so Club for Life was born.
"After 3 months of preparation, Club for Life opened it’s doors for the first time at the famous Gardening Club in Covent Garden. The ethos behind the club was to create a fun filled environment with the essential ingredients being life force and positive energy, with the musical treat supplied by resident DJ’s Jeremy Healy and Chris & James
"Proving to be an instant success nationwide, the ever-increasing popularity and demand for a larger venue forces Shelley to open the doors to the adjoining Rock Garden venue - doubling the capacity and also creating another room. During the summer months the outside courtyard and restaurant also opened to give clubbers a total of 5 rooms to explore, with monthly themes also making it a visual delight!
"Throughout ’93 Club for Life received critical acclaim from DJ’s, clubbers and the press alike and received due recognition from readers of DJ mag, who voted it their Cub of the Year in the UK.
"In April 1994 Club for Life went global when Dave Dorrell packed his top tunes and left for Hong Kong. Brandon Block and Laurence Nelson and Chris & James got on the eastern tip making Club for Life the first British club to reside there on a monthly basis. "Not content with world domination, Shelley and the Club embarked on a vinyl career with some help from the boys at Effective. Club for Life Records was launched on 4th July 1994 and its debut single ‘Tall ‘n’ handsome’ by Outrage whipped up critical acclaim by DJ’s and the press.
"Summer 1995 saw the Club take a vacation and, leaving London to its humidity, headed for the country. The Barn in Kent provided the fresher climes while DJ’s Jeremy, Jon (Pleased Wimmin) and Fat Tony meant Sunday roasts went uneaten everywhere.
"Three months on and ready for action, Club for Life storms into London with a new venue in Piccadilly - GC2. With Jeremy, Brandon and Laurence Nelson at the helm, the Club celebrated it’s third year with a party that worked its way back into the p.m. in true Club for Life style
"In the past years, Club for Life has played host to DJ’s from all over the world. Renaissance, Cream, Nottingham’s Wobble Deluxe, Brighton’s Zap, Scotland’s Rhumba Club and more inimitable DJ’s!" In 1996 they released Reflective mixed by Brandon Block & Lisa Loud.
