David Lambert

After being one of the Promoters behind the Phantasy raves of 1989 David Lambert moved to Folkestone, Kent sometime in 1990 where he set up the promotions company New Age Dream.

The first event for New Age Dream was under the name Utopia on 25th September 1990 at the rather glitzy nightclub La Parisienne on Folkestone Seafront. Some top DJ's such as Steve Bicknell & Face played and it was well attended for a Tuesday night.

New Age Dream then went to Images nightclub in Dover for Utopia on 24th October 1990 where Fabio & Grooverider showed why they were some of the top DJ's at the time. A PA from N Joi also went down a storm.

The third event of 1990 was a Utopia all dayer at the Metronome on 25th November 1990 in Folkestone with a host of top DJ's.

In 1991 David Lambert of New Age Dream changed the name of the raves from Utopia to the more recognised Global Dance. 16th February 1991 saw Global Dance hold their first event at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone. This was a sell out with the main arena concentrating on PA's such as Beloved, Jamie Page, Lunarci and DJ's Sergio & Loftgroover, with the smaller second room giving the chance to some local such as TNT from Room 6.

Global Dance 2 was on 20th April 1991 at the Winter Gardens Margate. Building on the success of the first Global Dance the venue was near to capacity with a live appearance from Xpansions.

Global Dance secured their first all night licence for the third event on 13th July 1991. A sell out crowd saw the likes of Cola Boy, Fabio & Grooverider and the Ratpack.

Following the success of Global Dance 3 at the Stour Centre a licence was obtained to hold all night events there each week under the name Global Dance Exposure. Unfortunately these were not as well attended as previous events which resulted in the plug being pulled after about 5 weeks.

The fourth event saw Global Dance back to form at the Swallows Centre, Sittingbourne with a capacity crowd.
Spot the similarity between the Global Dance 4 flyer and the early Phantasy raves.

What would be the final event in the Global Dance history was held at Mote Park Maidstone on 2nd November 1991.

The opening of the Global Dance studio was due on 18th November 1991. Unfortunately the night never happened and the studio never opened because on the day of the opening a large company on the industrial site (who rented approx half the site) objected to it and threw their toys out of their pram. This proved to be the end for Global Dance.
