How Club Kinetic really got off the ground was a classic case of accurate timepiece and correct European flatfish’... Think about it!

It all started in 1990 for Errol Russell when the promoters of the day (Energy, Perception, Amnesia etc) wanted me to hand out their flyers after various events. In time, several other promoters wanted the same service and I had to get my friends (who were also keen ravers) to help me.

Errol then decided … why not charge them for this very important service … A fair price was calculated and teams were then set up to hand out flyers. Errol then set about finding responsible trustworthy personnel throughout the UK to act as a Regional Co-ordinator for Flyer Distribution.

The Regional Co-ordinator was responsible for advising Errol (on a weekly basis) of all the venues in their area where promotion was possible … The information was collated and then faxed to the promoter with events that needed promoting. The Kinetic Promotions Flyer Distribution Service was born.

Errol contracted 35 strategically placed personnel as follows

West Midlands - Telford HQ
West Midlands - Stourbridge
West Midlands - Chasetown
West Midlands - Stafford
West Midlands – Ludlow & South Shropshire
East Midlands – Melton Mowbray
East Midlands - Corby
East Midlands – Derby & Nottingham
Herefordshire - Hereford
Worcestershire – Worcester & Evesham
Scotland - Glasgow
North East – Newcastle
North West – Blackburn
North West – North Manchester
SW Lancashire – Southport
West Yorkshire - Leeds
South Yorkshire – Sheffield
Lincolnshire – Lincoln
Oxon – Oxford
Berkshire - Reading
Buckinghamshire – High Wycombe
London SE – Harlow
London West – Berks/Herts/Middx
London Orbital – Heathrow
South Coast – Worthing & Brighton
Essex North - Colchester
Essex South / Kent - Margate
Suffolk – Ipswich
North Wales – Holyhead
North Wales – Wrexham
Mid Wales – Knighton
South Wales – Swansea
North Wales – Cardiff
North Wales – Newport
Avon - Bristol

Before long, Kinetic Promotions was born and established as a distributor of flyers for all the major parties.
Wanting more of the action, Errol then bargained with the promoters to allow him to sell tickets for their events seeing as he was already distributing their flyers.

The Promoters soon recognised the importance of Kinetic Promotions and it was not long before Kinetic Promotions was given the opportunity to sell tickets for the major events of the day ... events such as Energy, Perception, Amnesia, Fantazia, Obsession, Mythology, Time, etc. The Kinetic Promotions Ticket Agency was born.

At the height of the service Kinetic Promotions could deploy 300 agents in one night between Brighton & Glasgow to advertise an event and frequently sold in excess of 2000 tickets each and every week.

Errol attended many parties and spoke to many, many promoters … The DJs recognised this and before long they were asking Errol to have a word with the Promoters whilst at the planning stage of their event about their DJ requirements.

Errol saw the advantage and the prestige of this and before long he held the diaries for the following DJs:
DJs Rat Pack, Top Buzz, DJ Rap, DJ Hype, DJ SS, DJ Phantasy, Full Effects, Ellis Dee, Swan’ee, DJ Gemini, Mental Mayhem, Spice and The Music Maker. The Kinetic Promotions DJ Agency was born.

Errol then organised and held events in Swansea in preparation of something bigger … This came about when Errol was approached by the Leisurebowl following the departure of Entropy, which Errol accepted.

Errol decided to call his night CLUB KINETIC. Errol employed additional staff Andy Johnson and Glen Banks being 2 of them (Glen and Andy were not involved in the dance scene whatsoever) to help him to run this venture. This was a venture that needed to be managed well and Errol thought that staff that did not attend all the raves and parties was the right direction.

Errol set about planning the best line ups that he could imagine after speaking to many, many punters over a period of time and put them into effect. Errol also used this as a means of showcasing all the DJs that he managed. In addition, Errol also came up with the concept of The Theme Nights were created as a treat to the punters but also to increase revenue. The Scratch Masters Night, The 3 Deck Wizards, The Best of The North, South & The Midlands, The Infamous Ladies Night (all female DJs) etc. The Theme Night proved a huge success and the Regional Co-ordinator were instrumental in the planning of Theme Nights because they knew the best DJ’s in their regions. It took over 3 months before the attendance exceeded the 1600 capacity each week and every DJ wanted to play Club Kinetic.

It was not too long after that Andy Johnson and Glen Banks advised Errol to release the various Kinetic Services because it was too much to manage as well as the club. Errol was not happy about this but eventually conceded to the advice he was being given.

Andy Johnson and Glen Banks then advised Errol that he could now take a long deserved holiday because of all the time I had put into the whole Kinetic brand from 1990 without a break … I went on holiday.

Whilst overseas, I received many phone calls from many the Regional Co-ordinators (who by now my personal friends) advising me that they had been refused entry to Club Kinetic. Andy Johnson and Glen Banks had told them that they were no longer welcome. I returned to the UK to find that Andy Johnson and Glen Banks had removed me from the equation after striking a deal with the Leisurebowl.

My involvement with Club Kinetic ended … but the blueprint had already been set. It did not take a genius to continue a brand that had become successful. Glen and Andy had in effect stolen Club Kinetic and the brand.

Legal proceedings started and the night became known as BPM. With no joy from the legal proceedings Errol worked with Quest, Pimp, Essence in Swansea and a few other promotions.

Errol Russell was also instrumental helping Gerald Bailey to create Quest in Wolverhampton.

This is the true Kinetic story … known by all the major promoters but not the average guy on the street.
I would therefore be pleased if you would put the Kinetic story straight!
