Back to Basics - Dave BeerA man like Dave Beer needs no introduction. He was involved in house music from the heady early days of 1988, throwing house parties after starting out as a tour manager for indie dance acts such as That Petrol Emotion and Pop Will Eat Itself.
He started Back to Basics with his best friend Ali Cooke in 1991 and as we all know is still a prominent promoter with credits such as Back to Basics (England & Ibiza), Backbeat, and Basics to his name, as well as one-off parties in many diverse locations.
Whilst remaining at the forefront of club promotion Dave has realised that he can't carry on forever getting caned all night and so much to people's surprise has found a new way of expressing himself - behind the decks.
Dave's musical style reflects a more open-minded music policy than the DJs with their heads stuck up their own arse who had appeared in the mid to late nineties. Dave's record collection and DJ style, whilst always maintaining his true identity as a four-to-the-floor house man, demonstrate his wide range of influences including breakbeats, drum & bass, African beats and electro to name but a few - and this is what you see reflected in his DJ sets.
Dave's time is spent foremost as a club promoter, and chooses only to play at parties he wants to be at - he is not interested in bashing it out on the so-called DJ circuit. However, he has a monthly residency at the recently opened London superclub Home. Eventography
