Destiny - Manor Bournemouth - Review

It started around six thirty in the evening, DJ Vinyltrixter and Richie Whizz woke me up on my sofa. It was a nice warm evening, and it was even nicer cruising down to Bournemouth in Jimmy J’s crisp BMW. We set off from Jimmy’s house at 7.45 and reached Bournemouth at around 8.45, Jimmy breaking the sound barrier on the way down to the coast. I had never been to the Manor before and I was surprised when we had to drive round a twisty road to get to the venue which was an old mansion converted into a club. This reminded me of Sterns, the mother of all clubs which was situated in Brighton before it closed down to be come the Mansion House.

On arrival at the club, I met up with DJ Mixmatt, the promoter of tonight’s event, who proceeded to show me around the venue. It had three levels, the main floor was for the Happy Hardcore massive, upstairs was for the Drum ‘n’ Bass crew and also another room downstairs for the House and Garage punters.

Well, I was a bit worried because when I turned up there wasn’t a person in sight. We had arrived earlier than usual, but there wasn’t a great turn out. But Mixmatt assured me saying, “Don’t worry Ruff, it will be kicking in here later”. He wasn’t wrong, it was packed not long later.

Nine o’clock came, and Jimmy J and Vinyltrixter went onto the decks whilst I started to MC. They played a storming back to back set, which I found easy to roll the lyrics to, I know their style and we work well together. Well, by eleven o’clock the place was absolutely jumping, with a wicked set from Jimmy J and Vinyltrixter. The crowd were loving the happy vibes, that Slammin’ Vinyl’s deadly duo were mixing up, they always get the crowd going dropping tunes like ‘Red Balloons’ and ‘Take Me Away’ still a favourite for the Happy Hardcore stylee!

Next up was the DJ Vibes on the main floor, who spun a wicked selection of tunes which kept the crowd pleased all the time. I’m always impressed with Vibes who had his own MC, Livelee, picking up the pace and getting the crowd going with some Hardcore pressure which was bursting the massive inside! Myself and Vinyltrixter decided to have a scout around, firstly with the House and Garage room. Even though this room was right next door to the main arena the sound system was booming. They didn’t clash, it happens at other venues, but Destiny had sorted it fine time.

We stayed and bopped around a bit and admired the view (know what I mean) and then went back upstairs. As we entered the main room, which is quite large too, I heard some rip raw Drum ‘n’ Bass ripping through the sound system. As I got closer to the decks I could see it was the man like Dr S Gachet, so I chilled in the corner with DJ Supreme and Vinyltrixter for a good half an hour, cause Gachet was ripping it up. Then I reached back down to the main arena, and there was a DJ from the Hyperbolic Crew with one hard stomping sound. (Happy Hardcore doing it). As we consumed some more Jack Daniels with Vinyltrixter I realised that it was time for me to go back onto the mic, which was a bit of a shame because I was having a really good time and feeling rather pissed.

It was the Destiny regulars, Mixmatt and Xcess, back to back with an absolutely wicked set and I’ll tell you something, the DJ Xcess is the bollocks at scratching, yes Xcess!

Anyway, two o’clock came round all too soon, and the sound system was booming upstairs and down, the Bournemouth massive were wicked and me Jack Daniels was dark, (What!).

All that’s left to say is Destiny is a very good night out and I’ll be back there again soon and watch out for their London gigs to be held at Club UK, Wandsworth, well that’s about it apart from Richie Whizz was mashed.
