As we explored the venue it's large arena and staircases and balcony we did travel through the Techno Drome, but didn't stay to review it as it's not my taste. Next on the decks was the one and only Jungle Techno entrepreneur Easygroove who brought some of the sounds from upstairs and mixed them with the ones downstairs, what a firing combination, but unfortunately not my style. A minor disappointment during his set with the sound which was cut off from many of the speakers, but it was soon sorted by the engineers. Back in the main room we pushed our way through to the front to get a better look at our DJ from London, Jumping Jack Frost. Now I have recently been to a few places where he has played and I have raved and he has not committed himself to his mixing abilities to the way in which he is capable. This time I really though. I always wonder if the DJ's set depends on the mood the crowd is in, if this is the case then no wonder his set was spot on, because the crowd was kicking fro non-stop music. One surprise that night was the PA by the Prodigy, a truly entertaining PA. At this stage I believe the review is getting a bit long so I will briefly review the rest. Ratty and Slipmatt were excellent. Ratty played dark as usual but always upholding his image of mix master. Interviewing a few people on the night the most popular DJ in their view had to be Slipmatt who played an exceptional set of upfront dark and jolly(?) jungle. However, my DJ for the night was Grooverider who yet again proved to the crowd he is still a light in the DJing history. He played to the crowd with a mix of danceable breakbeat trance, which goes down well in my flavour of music. All in all a wicked night. Sean Vesey |
