Article about Club Kinetic from 1996
Club Kinetic opened its doors for the very first time on Friday 1st May 1992, the line up for the opening night was at that time of the highest quality. The DJs were: Slipmatt, DJ Rap, The Ratpack together with residents MC Connie, DJ Diamond, Daba and TJ. This was only after an extensive eight week promotion campaign involving distribution of over 150,002.3 flyers of thereabouts, both radio and magazine advertising were also used for what at the time was a 1000 capacity club. How Club Kinetic really got off the ground was a classic case of ‘accurate timepiece and correct European flatfish’... Think about it! The boys were doing a fair bit of work for promoters all over the country and were quite well known within the industry. The opportunity arose as the promoters from ‘Entropy’ left the Leisurebowl in March 1992. They were then approached by the Leisurebowl and within two months all the work needed had been done and they opened ‘Club Kinetic’. The concept for clubs in the Midlands area alone, all doing more or less the same thing, same DJs etc. They therefore aimed to give people something just a little bit different, firstly by having the addition of a House room from the beginning, this of course gave the clubber a choice of musical styles, effectively giving the punters ‘two clubs for the price of one’. They are continually re-furbishing the club ensuring it never becomes stale. The first part of this years refit most of you will already have seen, if not - why not? This you will be pleased to know is only a fraction of what is actually planned for the refurbishment for ’96. The second phase of the refit has unfortunately been slightly delayed due to a certain amount of slightly reddish tape. Councils, who needs ‘em! When the planning permission is finally agreed upon, work will commence at a fair old pace. The reason that the refit for ’96 has been split into two parts is because the work planned is so extensive that it will give the club a completely new appearance. We can give a little away but not too much, better to go and see once done, we thinks. What we will say is that there will be a totally new entrance to the club, new bar and a brand new cloakroom. There will also be new toilets in a different location, as we said earlier a completely new layout altogether. Even more reason to get your backsides down there ASAP. The capacity of Kinetic these days is a lovely 1600 eager beavers when all the rooms are open, for those bigger than the average bear nights. The club will continue to use the same musical policies as present, Jungle is banned, the reason being the majority of people who frequent the club do not like this form of music, so why play it. An excellent example of promoters listening to their own crowds. You can’t please all the people etc. But most of the people is good enough eh! Their next night will be their third and is ‘Carry Dick’ on the 1st June. The DJs etc will be in fancy dress - BEWARE - the last show at The Drome had a ‘lockout’ by 10.30pm, so get there early! Being the best club in the country you must have the best resident. Well they don’t come much better than the good old boy, Brisk. He has now also been joined by Demand, also in the House room is the usual Daba etc now joined by Phil ‘The Pill’ Foster (you owe us - big time). For those of you who purchased the last Kinetic Album, yet more good news (we feel like proverbial Santa’s here), yes, you’ve guessed it, if it’s not already out, the second Kinetic album will be out very soon. There’s also a colossal club tour to go with it! Phew! Also look out for forthcoming single releases, see press for details and the album club tour Part 3 on 18th May, is at The Pleasuredome. Memorable nights at Kinetic can also be re-lived with the aid of tape packs, available from the club shop. The quality of which, in the past, has not always been totally up to scratch, however, this has now been addressed and we are assured your tapes will now be of the highest quality. These will be available roughly every 8-10 weeks. There is now a Drug Awareness Campaign, no YAP but maybe leaflets or flyers, this is not yet finalised but is high on the management agenda, rest assured. Without a shadow of a doubt Kinetic’s kicked so far, and will continue to kick, so once again get your bots down, across or up there at your first opportunity. You will not be disappointed. We guarantee it!
