Pandemonium - Mr B's - 17/06/95 ReviewPandemonium at Mr. B’s. – Saturday 17th June 1995 Pandemonium – n.1. wild confusion; uproar. A place of uproar and chaos.
Well, that’s what my dictionary says and to be honest, if Saturday night at Mr. B’s was anything to go by. I think I would have to agree. This club has to be about the easiest venue to find in the whole world – ever! |

Get off the M6 at Junction 10 and follow the signs for Willenhall and you really can’t miss it. Round the back of the club is a large, free car park, a handy place to park unicycles, bat mobiles, hot air balloons or whatever type of vehicle you decide to come in.
Once in it was straight to the main arena. This venue must have been a nightclub at some point in the dim and distant past but has now, most obviously, been transformed into a Hardcore venue. Mr. B’s sports a 15k, hand built, sound system and very nice it is too. Loud, plenty of BASS and no distortion. An array of lights including a 60 watt bulb, monster moon, strobe flowers, twisters, par cans and the obligatory laser of the ‘white light’ multi colour variety – yummy!
Above the dance floor is a circular balcony useful for the peeps upstairs to check out your moves. Situated on the sides of the dance floor were two, most welcome, dance platforms. There is also plenty of seating for all those light-weight types. Upstairs, if you finally manage to negotiate them, there is yet more room to dance and the earlier mentioned balcony above arena 1, also access to arena 2 is gained from here. Arena 2 is quite small but is very nicely decorated with plenty of U.V. paint and mobiles (not the phones you understand).
Time to sit down and have a five hour conversation with our mates… NOT! It’s back to the main arena for us and resident DJ Full Effect was blasting out some stomping tunes as the venue started to fill up. Smoke soon filled the dance floor enhancing the effects of the wonderful laser. Those in the now wasted no time at all getting on the dance floor and not squandering this staggering set. Next up and continuing the happy vibe was DJ Dream. Another exemplary example of well selected, crowd pleasing tunes, ably assisted by MC TJ and MC Ranski.
DJ Supreme and MC Marley were up next, as always doing the biz to a now rammed dance floor. The atmosphere on the dance floor was brilliant, loadsa smiley faces. This is what we like to see and surely what it’s all about.
An air of expectancy came over the crowd as the observant among them saw the legendary Grooverider walk towards the decks. Once on the decks, as the first tune came out, the crowd went bonkas, bananas, wild, crazy, mad. I think we can safely say he went down well. 90 minutes (and a considerable number of rewinds) later and Slipmatt has the formidable task of following this Jungle don. He started his set with a bit of Jungle and later on cranked the tempo up to finish the night off nicely.
Mr. B’s has to be the premier Hardcore event in the Midlands. Pandemonium passionately believe in mixing musical styles through the night and ‘keeping the scene together’. However, they do alternate the theme in the second arena between Jungle, House and Techno. |
