Rezerection - New Year 93 - Review

Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh - New Years Eve Special

Having been to recent Rezerection Events we knew Friday 31 December would not be a disappointment. In front of us was a 4 hour journey, so we set off early in case of bad weather conditions and traffic etc. On arriving at the venue we left our car in the free, security patrolled car park and made our way to the gates. No queues, great! We handed over our tickets to the polite security and in we went.

The place was absolutely buzzing! We had a good wander round to get our bearings. About one third of the building was sectioned off and used as a chill out. Seats, waltzers, refreshment stalls, bouncy castle and the music to complement it. Then we ventured into the main arena. With Carl Cox starting our night, we couldn’t resist the temptation to dance. We found space near the speakers at the side of the stage. The lights and lasers beckoned, our night had just begun.

The atmosphere grew tense as the time reached 11.55pm. Suddenly the banging Hardcore stopped and was replaced by the MC telling us the 5 minute countdown ceremony has commenced. On the, once again brilliant stage, we watched as several men appeared in kilts (and the lot!) and gave their bagpipes hell. A few thousand people waited and waited until 5 minutes seemed like a lifetime.

Three, two, one........ We couldn’t tell whether the bagpipes were still going, as the cheers and whistles echoed around us. It was mental! The 2 dance platforms were crammed, in fact the whole arena was. Many climbed on shoulders of friends to make more space. The heat in the place was amazing, condensation even dripped from the high ceiling. After loads of hugs and kisses from complete strangers we danced on. Seduction responded with a great Jungle set, the crowd literally bounced. Forget the castle in the chill out! It was nice to hear a few oldies popped in now and again to lift the crowd to their peak.

After walking round the chill out a couple of times we spotted some seats right between the arenas. Talk about confusion! Our feet picked up the slow beat of the chill out, our heads nodded to the fast banging Hardcore. The Scottish people were great, they couldn’t believe we’d travelled, "All the way from England."

Whatever your dress style, white gloves, hats, whistles, fancy dress, you were made welcome. Everyone enjoyed themselves so who cares?

One question though, where did the water vanish to in the ladies? Not only the sinks but the toilets as well. It must be said that the price for the night was absolutely outrageous, probably the highest in the country, apart from that the whole of the night, music, stage show, DJ’s and MC’s were brilliant, why does it have to end?
