Paul Murphy says:The highlights of Angels, Burnley were Marcus Kaye on a Tuesday around 87/88 playing acid, techno and house when it was a totally fresh commodity, whilst the rest of the town were listening to Bros, Wet Wet Wet, and Stock Aitkin and fucking Waterman! I remember Durks and Lisa, BJ (RIP), Mark Hadfield, Paul Hornsby, Patey... Once 1991 had finished so had this club for music. Yes, it was packed each week but it was now a rave club and the music which had moved on from the early days was never present. The tops off and glow stick brigade had now taken over and the club was just a haven for anyone who wanted to get fucked. Taylor was king ... All the big Salford kick offs really tarnished what was once a great venue and the whole place just became a den of despair without a shred of class, culture or imagination. The scene (the true house phenomena) had only ever graced the Angels in short spells. In truth, it was originally a Sharon and Tracey club in the 80's and remained so (other than the aforementioned Tuesday evenings with Marcus) until that brief spell in around 1990/91. Don't get me wrong, for that short while many of the original heads stopped travelling the country (we were in a different location each weekend) as the Angels really was amazing, but we were soon on the road again to Leeds, Coventry, Blackpool, Manchester, Stoke, Wolverhampton, etc etc etc. Tony Wood says:One hell of a club was Angels !! That had the pleasure of some of the most awesome dj's touch down there ... " Sasha , Ossia , Carl Cox , Jon da Silva, Welly , Stu Allen " say's it all ......... Paul Taylor just took the roof off week in an week out .... loved it when that cannon used to fire one big bang !! an Paul Taylor just dropped king bee " back by dope demand " straight after .. quality !!! met some very fine friends from Burnley , proper memories that will never be forgotten ..
