Madisons BournemouthMadisons - located in the centre of Bournemouth & had a pumping scene between 1990 & 1994. Small club on two floors which played hardcore/techno downstairs & house/garage upstairs & was the most popular club in the area during the golden years of hardcore. |

Downstairs was where it was at back in the day & every Friday night would see a queue of ravers patiently waiting to get in & dance away til 2am. Great atmosphere in there & a sound system that shook the place to its foundations, especially the basslines which used to rattle your ears due to the close proximity of the speakers to the dancefloor!
Too many great evenings spent in there to review all & can't remember most but regularly had line ups consisting of Slipmatt, Sy, Carl Cox, Ramos, Easygroove, Dave Angel, SS and many more.
First Friday of every month was a night called Electric Kingdom which had Colin Dale & Colin Favor as residents whilst guests such as Carl Cox, Clarkee, Sven Vath, Tanith & West Bam smashed the place up with ear-splitting 200mph techno!
Also had a monthly night called Northern Exposure which featured Sasha & John Digweed for the more housey following.
Best night I ever had there was when Easygroove was booked to play a 3 hour set so the queue was huge in anticipation & things improved dramatically when approaching the door we saw a notice saying Robbie Dee was also MCing for the Technodread!
Got in, boshed a dove as usual & headed to the dancefloor as resident Stu J was bangin' out the choons. Easygroove comes on the decks with Robbie Dee in full voice announcing that its Easygrooves first set in Bournemouth since Fantazia Summertime the year before!
Needless to say, Easygroove played an absolute blinder & the highlight was Robbie Dee getting on the decks & mixing (terribly) for half an hour in the middle! Can't really remember much else as its 14 years ago now but tried to get a copy of his set but unfortunately it was never released. Sad
Went home buzzin' as usual as the 2am finish time always came around far too quickly but there was always Saturday night out raving to prepare for!
Madisons closed down in 94 (I think) as the council declared it unsafe as the dancefloor downstairs sunk & nearly collapsed into Dolcis shoe shop below it! Happy days & happy memories of a club that everyone in the area viewed as one of the best on the south coast behind the legendary Sterns in Worthing.
Another hilarious part of the Madisons experience was Phil Norman (of Gladiators fame) being on the door & everyone in the queue singing 'Gladiators' to him as they were comin' up!
Anyone else ever get down to Bournemouth & experience it?
