Sweden - The scene from 1993

Sweden is well off, most people are fairly normal and ruled by a Big Brother type government in comparison to England.  So out there, when the police tell you turn the music down, you turn the music down.  Despite this, Sweden did have a healthy scene in the early 90's

The capital, Stockholm, which is on the Easy coast, has a population of just over 1 million, Gothenburg the second city has a population of 600,000.

There were a number of record companies in Sweden at the time.  Including Swernix.  This was a group of more commercial DJ's who mainly remixed on a commercial basis.  Robin-S "show me Love" had additional production done by Stonebridge for Swernix, which was Sweden's best hit to date at the time in the electronic dance scene.

Zarek was one of the only underground record labels in Sweden.  Their main releases have been two albums called Sweden Goes Hardcore which was Hardcore Euro Techno.

The most well known techno artist and DJ from Sweden is Robert Leiner aka The Source.  He outgrew Sweden and moved to Belgium  to record music for R&S Records.

Clubs and Raves

Sweden started raving in 1989 at Warehouse parties in Gothenburg. The music consisted basically of what the DJ's could get hold of = mainly Techno. The scene in Sweden split into three areas musically. Gothenburg down to Malmo is mainly Trance, but the further you get, there is more of a Goa music influence.

The Paradise organisation ran a fortnightly club at a secret venue called a Bunka.
