Altern8 - ProfileAltern8 was formed by Mark Archer and Chris Peat. They were originally called Nexus 21 and concentrated on being a techno act but as a side project started to record Hardcore under the Altern8 name. Legend has it they were former deck chair attendants (in Stafford?) They decided early on that their live act should entertain and their signature was to wear chemical warfare protection suits with yellow masks apparently loaded with Vics! This freakily started a trend throughout the scene. |

There first EP was Overload and had a techno feel, their second Vertigo was more breakbeat hardcore and was released in 1991. This became a rave anthem, with Infiltrate 202 a massive crowd pleasing tune still being popular at Old Skool parties today. Through some controversial PR about disco Biscuits and Air horns which received coverage in The Sun propelling the record into the top 30. All PR is good PR!
There follow record "Activ - 8" was an even bigger hit, summing up the happy rave scene of the time. Their next record Frequency was famously recorded in the Shelley’s Laserdome club car park at 2.30am. The bands PR for this record claimed that they only made 10,001 copies of this record before burning the master recording. Whilst untrue it gain the band more great publicity increasing there profile.
Now a well known name in the scene Altern8 played at many of the big Raves of the time, there last release in 1993 was Everybody, it was there last following musical differences Mark & Chris broke up.
Mark Archer formed Slo Moshun with Danny Tarus to release House music and later in 1998 released breakbeat records under the title or Mr. Nex with Rennie Pilgrim.
Chris moved away from the scene and worked for a PC firm.
