DJ Kandie Rush

At the age of just 14, whilst being a regular attendee at Bournemouth’s then very popular Equinox under 18 events at Cage & Zoo, Bournemouth belle Andrea Garcia knew without any shadow of a doubt what she wanted to do professionally for the rest of her life. Inspired by house music at this stage Andrea’s journey would begin by simply watching and learning tactics from the resident there, who would later conspire with her Mum to purchase her first set of turntables to practise what would later become her professional art form.

The practise and passion that went into such an art form secured her first residency at Equinox marking an early start to an already promising career and at just 15, she was mixing the finest house music in a main room club setting every single week, not a bad start considering most male artists don’t find their professional footing until at least 18 or 19, so being so young and establishing herself already as a female artist was a massive boost.

It wouldn’t however, be until some years later that the artist framework for Kandie Rush would be formulated in the Hardcore and Drum & Bass forums respectively. After taking time out to settle down and start a family - also at an early age (an advent that would give her three beautiful children), the marriage didn’t last, but would have a positive outcome in that it inspired her return to music....with a vengeance. Now signing off under the artist moniker Kandie Rush, she was given a set of Numark T100 direct drive turntables, this time turning to UK hardcore and the underground sound thanks to the support of long term friend and collaborator MC Ned-E. Now freshly immersed in a more underground scene and sound, Kandie passed around demos to promoters of local parties and events to start building a name and getting herself known as a fresh and exciting new female addition to the underground scene.

It was around this time she became charged with becoming admin of popular online radio station HeadRush Live as the owner was busy, looking after 25 different artists and managing the play list and schedule, for which, she was also part of as a regular host that would lead on to continued slots with History Of Hardcore, Dance Transmission, Underground Exhilaration and the UK’s number one online UK hardcore station Krafty Radio. Kandie also had the opportunity to express a passion for drum & bass on another of the scene’s popular online stations SubBassFM, for which she is also a massive fan, adding to her range as a DJ musically, giving versatility and dimension to every set she plays whether online or in a club.

Now progressing and getting back to club work, Kandie was finally back on track with elevating the atmosphere in main rooms along the South Coast with event brands such as High Velocity, Hardcore Breakdown, Dancefloor Slamma, Exile, Black Rock, Fractal Chaos, Dance Liberation, Fusion and Ultimate Hardcore all on her list of past, present and future commitments meaning like most others in today’s hardcore circuit, a working DJ, must also be a producing DJ. Quickly taking to Cubase SX3 and learning production, her steady and concentrated knowledge built by learning the process would then, by way of later adding Cubase 5, yield her 20 hardcore tracks including the incredible ‘Day After Tomorrow’, ‘Blow Ya Mind’ on Can You Feel It Media and ‘Dance Floor Rockin’ (with Eufeion) on Revelation Digital and so far, one drum & bass release, four of which would be signed to scene hero Joey Riot’s award winning Lethal Theory Raw label - a set of signings that she’s now proud to associate herself with on a regular basis as part of the Lethal Theory family.

She recently worked closely with Lethal Theory and Raverbaby impresario, as well as one part of SE1 – MC Enemy on her latest track ‘Live 4 The Scene’ , Jamie Ritman and Vocalist Mark Slammer and regularly hosts studio sessions using Cubase 5, Nexus, Trilogy, Sylenth, Glitch amongst others to co-produce, engineer and record live session mixes for new MC’s, providing a high quality, upfront and highly energetic set to record their demos to. This spring she will be working with the legend that is DJ Breeze, as well as other huge names along side Chris Unknown, Clodhopper and a huge project under way with Joey Riot to be sent to Ministry Of Sound.

Kandie has also had significant experience with promoting, as both the Promoter of Dynamite with MC Ned-E and with her current partner on Hard Vibrance, which have both enjoyed smaller success including an appearance from Joey Riot himself, the basis of course for much bigger things to come in all new, larger venue – so watch this space!

Moving forward, 2011 is a particularly exciting year for Kandie, with a studio now fully set up and currently fulfilling many production commitments for her own original works, remixes and ever in demand for her work with producing upfront and vibrant demo tracks for MC’s to further their careers, releases on Lethal Theory Raw continuing to be compiled, more radio shows added to her weekly roster, a further set of dates for the development of more Dynamite events and a bevy of promoters and event organisers both internationally recognised and new to the game seeking out her talent for ploughing raw energy into a main room setting wherever she may be asked to grace the decks and you could say the turn of a new corner in hardcore is also the mark of the future destiny coming to fruition for the one and only Kandie Rush.

Can you feel it yet? Rest assured… you soon will do.
