MC Korrupt Interview 2006
What’s
your real name? And where did you grow up?
Stef Mclean, born and bred in Glasgow.
Location now?
Edinburgh
What were your early music influences? Who did you look up to?
Musically, I was into bands like NWA, Public Enemy, De La Soul (3ft
High & Rising – what an album)
How did you get your MC name?
Well, about 1994 myself and a mate of mine “Dj Amnesia” started up a
pirate radio station up in Glasgow called Paradise FM. My Dj name
back then was Dj Corrupt. About Oct 2003, both myself and Marc Smith
were driving back from a gig we were doing and he suggested to me
that I changed the “C” to a “K”. From that night MC Korrupt was
born!!
How did you get into the scene? Where was your 1st gig and
what was was it like?
I’ve been around the scene for years, just not right up front like
the way I’ve been over the past year and a half. My first big gig
was at Back To The Futures Halloween Ball at the Carling Academy in
Glasgow 2003. Tbh, I was shitting it!! Not only was it in
front of nearly 3000 people, but it was for Marc Smith. I was sick
and everything before the set due to nerves. Lol.
How long have you been MCing now?
About 15 months now
What do you think are your best qualities as an MC?
The fact that I’m just up there as a raver and havin’ a ball. The
way I see it – if the ravers see me havin’ a good time then they’re
gonna have a good time.
What are your fav lyrics? Do you write lyrics down?
I have a few favourite lyrics, but you’ll have to wait till Fantazia
to hear them. In regards to writing them down, I have quite a
few written down. Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow though
and make it up as you go along.
Who’s
your fav Dj to MC to? And is there anyone you’d like to MC for?
I’ve MCd for some of the greatest Hardcore Djs in the last 15
months, so it’s a difficult one to call. I gotta say 1 guy though
who always gives the total adrenalin rush. Scotlands very own Marc
Smith. Big Props!! Would love to MC for Carl
Cox, but only if he played a set like the one he played at the “Big
Bang” that special night in Glasgow. Would love to MC for Promo
again. Mon the Gabba!!
What other MC’s do you rate?
MC Wotsee, Ribbz, Whizzkid, Sharkey, Madman, Casper, Storm, Marley,
Activator, Friction, XXX, G, Voyager & Joey Riot. There’s a lot of
Nu Breed MC’s coming through the ranks at the moment too. I haven’t
really heard the up and comings from England, but up here in
Scotland the likes of MC Double G, Boff & A-Ruption have been rippin’
it up.
What's you favourite all time tune? And worst and why?
There’s soooo many to choose from. It would be an injustice to pick
one. Sorry!! Worst tune? Erm..lemme think….That Hardcore version of
Wonderwall that was out years ago. That was a sore one!! lol
Best event you played?
Had to be BTTF NYE 2005/6. The Carling Academy was absolutely rammed
and to do the countdown from 10-0 with Madman was wikked. The roof
came off big time!!
Funniest/most embarrassing thing that ever happened at an
event?
NO COMMENT!! lol
Favourite promoter?
Ricky McGowan (Colours - BTTF), Rebirth & Addiction, Twisted &
Brainfire, Judgement Day
Best
venue?
The Carling Academy in Glasgow
What do you do to chill out away from the music?
Sit at home and watch Sky Sports. lol
Cosy Club or Warehouse?
Warehouse after visiting one of Joey Roits parties. DEFFO!!
Ibiza or Bahamas?
Bahamas
North or South?
North
Money or Morals?
Can I have both? lol
Favourite films?
Human Traffic, 24hr Party People, Happy Gilmore. Too many to
mention. Hahaha
What football team do you support?
What is your greatest fear?
Potholing.
What has been the best moment in your life, when you thought,
wow, this cant get no better?
When I won £6.3 million on the Euro lottery.
What have you been up to recently?
Bought some new socks the other day.
If you could stage a rave anywhere, where would you stage it ?
Slap bang in the middle of the UK, so that any of the ravers can get
there.
You’re MCing at Fantazia at the end of the month, are you
nervous? How do you prepare for a gig? How do you expect it will be?
Yes, MCing with Hyperbass and MCing on my own. Also, I would say
yes, I am nervous. It’s not everyday that you get the opportunity to
MC at Fantazia. Nerves are good. They keep you on your toes. I
expect it to go down really well, especially with Hyperbass. We’ve
played a few gigs out recently with Hyperbass and the ravers loved
it, so I’m hoping we get a decent time at Fantazia to show the
ravers united what Hyperbass are all about.
What advice would you give to up and coming Dj's/MC's?
Keep it reel and stick to what you believe in.
What does the future hold Korrupt?
Hoping to get more gigs south of the border in 2006. Only time will
tell. ;o)
How would you like to be remembered?
Big friendly Giant. lol
Anything else you want to say? Any shouts?
Yes, make sure you all come to see Hyperbass at Fantazia. ;o)
Respect to all my Notorious family. You know who you are!!
Safe.
Interview Conducted by Bex for & on behalf of
Fantazia prior to The Legend
Returns.
