On Friday 27/11/92, Fantazia “The
Showcase” the official launch of “The First Taste” the Fantazia
album, was attended by 4,000 people dancing the night away at The
Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Nr. Bath.
The first thing we noticed (besides the music being very loud!) was
that a lot of time and effort had been put into the production of
this event – with speakers at the front, middle and suspended from
the ceiling at the back (2am – you know who you are) if you couldn’t
hear the music, then you must be DEAF!
With big dance platforms at either side of this large venue, you
could clamber up and watch the sea of dancing people, and get a
really good view of the different stage performances, with a rainbow
of lights covering the whole venue.
We’ve all read the flyers that real off the crap about how good
lasers and lights are going to be, Argonic, Kryptonic – who cares
what there called, as long as they are actually there! If you
attended the event, then you were in for a nice surprise. This was
by far the best light and laser show I’ve seen in a very long time,
with multicoloured lights all over the shop and lasers that didn’t
let up for a second, it looked like some fighting scene out of Star
Wars, not forgetting the massive (and I mean BIG) screen at the rear
of the stage which was constantly throwing up film of the crowd and
some outstanding computer graphics, it truly was a visual
experience.
As the night progressed, the music got Hard & Heavy, Mad & Mental
through such DJ’s as LTJ Bukem, Ratty, Ramjack & Top Buzz (to name
but a few). The atmosphere got better & better with lots of happy
faces including the security, a grand start to the Christmas Season.
The DJ who took the crowd “One Step Beyond” had to be Easygroove,
taking up a set well into the early hours of the morning, the music
went from Hardcore to totally CRACKERS and the crowd loved it!!
Also, on the night, all the tracks from the Fantazia album were
played, live or not so live!?!
The general view inside was that of a very enjoyable evenings
entertainment, some even said it was better than Donnington (I
agree), maybe a little over priced at £25 a ticket, but all in all
worth it.
