Labyrinth Warehouse - Review

Labyrinth Warehouse - Bagleys - 28/08/93

With Sunrise cancelled and a couple of other raves not going ahead, this was the quietest August Bank Holiday on the rave circuit for many a year.  This had the critics in raptures proclaiming the death of Rave.  On the evidence of Saturday night, whoever said that the rave scene is dying should think again.  I would give them on piece of advice and that is 'they should taste their tongues before they talk'.

In many way Bagleys in the ideal place to hold a rave of this magnitude;  two levels, three arenas and a large outdoor chill out area.  The rave was packed to it's capacity.  Situated at Kings Cross it is easy to get to, and there are no noise restrictions which is something of a first for a rave in the heart of the metropolis.  However, I can see Club Labyrinth 5th Birthday selling out in not time especially when the word get out that this rave was an absolute blinder!  This shows that after 5 years Labyrinth are getting bigger and better,  (without taking anything away from Bagleys it is perhaps a shame that the venue for the 5th Birthday has been arranged here already, as many are going to miss out).

Other features included a mini fun fair, portaloos which are a good idea and an outdoor chill out zone with erected canopy.    As you walked into the main hardcore arena you were greeted by a 50k rig pumping out some of the hardest sounds you'll ever hear, and a sea of happy smiling faces with everybody doing their thang.    The dance floor in this arena was tested to it's limits as the floor itself was bouncing.  I soon realised that as we were dancing that we were being forced further and further back by the amount of people that wanted to be at the heart of the rave.

The second hardcore arena wasn't as full but the music was still kicking and people had more room to dance and express themselves.  Downstairs in the House Zone was safe, obviously not as frenetic as upstairs but wherever you went the music was good.  Personally, I didn't hear a bad tune played all night.

Kiteforce did a PA which was very well received.  The DJs were brilliant but for me Devious D was the man who rocked the crowd the most with his mixing and his brand of happy heavenly Hardcore.

At the end of it all nobody wanted to go home as the "Oi Oi" posse bayed for an encore, but by now the rave had gone over time.  It seemed that  the Peoples appetite for this rave was insatiable, and if they could they would have rave the whole weekend.

This party was a sell out, the atmosphere was superb, perhaps the best this year.  The music was RUFF,  The crowd friendly with happy smiley faces, what more could anyone want?

The 5th Birthday on October 2nd, if this is anything to go by looks like it could be the rave of the year.   So I leave you this message:

"Be there or blame yourself".
