Evolution Under 18 EventsEvolution held parties mainly at the Sanctuary in Milton Keynes. There first was 14th August 1993. These parties were under 18's, cashing in on a previously mainly untapped market of aspiring ravers. Ideal for a venue that in any case didn't have a drink license. |

Event Review – Evolution 5
The Sanctuary, Milton Keynes – Under 18’s Event
We arrived at 6.30pm to be greeted by some rather large security men who hastily guided us through the entrance to be searched for illegal stuff (guns, knives etc). We were then greeted by a very nice lady who gave us some back stage passes and wished us a great time (Respect 2 U). With our passes we made our way to the arena. Boy was this system loud! My ears are still ringing now!
A man like Dominque was on the decks, but it was early and there weren’t too many raving, what I saw of him was OK. After wandering around for a while we decided to get ourselves on the dance floor for the next DJ, who happened to be S.O.S., I haven’t heard of him much before, but I liked what I heard. Respect to S.O.S.. Nice one!
The man I was waiting for though, was DJ Dougal. Believe the hype, this geezer is totally wicked! His happy style got everyone’s hands in the air. I went crazy when he dropped SMD vol. 3. If you haven’t heard him, you don’t know what you’re missing.
After this I needed a drink so I checked out the drinks bar. I was pleasantly surprised to find the bottled water only 50p and not something silly like £1.50. Respect for that, because boy did we get through some water.
The atmosphere at this event was very odd. On the dance floor people were dancing and jumping around like they didn’t have a care in the world. People shared water and there was no problem but off the dance floor there were some very moody people about. Sort it out!
I must admit though there was no trouble, you would rather see a happy face than a grim one. Respect due to the bloke who said he was from Criminal Minds, you’ve got the right attitude! (Love the beard).
By now, I couldn’t walk so I sat down through the next DJ (Sorry!), I was told it was DJ SS but I couldn’t tell because MC Juiceman had the microphone up too loud and the system (which was supplied by Psychosis) was sounding a little dodgy, meaning that there was too much bass, so you couldn’t hear the beat properly.
Next up on the decks was DJ Stevee Wander. His set didn’t do much for me, though many people were still dancing away. There were still too many people sitting down though, which is why I think Dougal’s happy vibe should have been carried on.
My spirits were raised again though when I was told that Slipmatt was up next. He was OK, but nothing like I expected. The system definitely spoilt it. I don’t know what had happened there because earlier it was fine, still mustn’t grumble.
All in all a good night out. Let there be more raves for the under 18’s in the future. |
