Interdance - Wavenation - Review
There were two dance zones, the first was the Garage and Progressive which was inside the main building and with DJ’s such as Martin P (from SW1 and the Gardening Club) and Hector C (an old Sterns favourite) this was going to kick later on. The second zone was called the Hard Dance Zone, it was in a marquee outside. Now this line up promised a blend of Hardcore, Jungle and Techno. The first act, up in the Hard Dance Zone was Skunk and Blind Fury, and Blind Fury is actually blind. Think about it for a moment, a blind man mixing and scratching tunes, when every stage and every club will have a different set up and different equipment. Not only must he know his music inside out, but must have a vast knowledge of mixers and the equipment used. Respect. Meanwhile in the other room, I couldn’t get over how many people were in here, and the system was well loud. The DJ played some wicked Garage, but I couldn’t see or even get to the stage to find out who was on. The walls were covered in ultra violet paintings all done by Rufus, the paintings were a nice touch, you couldn’t help but notice them and stare. Nice one Rufus. DJ Quantum was coming to the end of his set in the Hard Dance Zone, the whole atmosphere on the night was just like Sterns used to be, friendly and ever so happy, but a night that held so much grief and sadness for many people. Mensa’s parents and brother were there with Rachel (Mensa’s girlfriend). Mensa’s father got up on stage to say a few words about Mensa and about what had happened, now this took a lot of courage. After the speech, Ellis Dee took to the decks and with lyrical assistance from MC Nemo, proceeded to once again raise the spirits of the crowd and hyped up the place. Ellis Dee dedicated his set to Mensa. Next up was Druid and MC Quartz who soon took control, in an absolutely mad set. By now it was actually getting warm in the marquee, it was bitter cold earlier on. Ratty had by all accounts called up earlier in the day to say he was unavailable, so GJ Jones (from Mad Tech) filled the slot. Now GJ Jones likes to play hard, Techno that is, let me tell you his set was rock hard and the crowd loved it. GJ Jones was followed by another Techno DJ, the one and only House Junkie! Two sets of pure Techno, what more can you want? A set from the Music Maker perhaps? Well that’s what you got, the Music Maker dedicated his set to Rachel. The set started off Trancey, but sure enough ended up as a Techno set not to be missed. The Music Maker made way for DJ Dream and MC Shadow. I spent the last hour or so floating between the Garage room and the VIP chill out, chatting to people and supping loads of tea. Every one that I spoke to had a good time and were very shocked about the death of Mensa. He WILL be missed. This was the last In-Ter-Dance Production, Mensa was the heart and soul of In-Ter-Dance, Mensa’s soul has now passed to the other side, so the legend of In-Ter-Dance rests with him. REST IN PEACE!
